Kirsti Campbell, MD

Gastroenterologist

Kirsti Campbell, MD

Overview

Dr. Kirsti Campbell loved biology from a young age. She looked for a career that combined her desire to spend a lifetime learning about biology and her determination to engage with others for the betterment of the community. She found that combination in medicine. She was drawn to gastroenterology because this specialty focuses on maximizing patients’ quality of life, comfort, and confidence as they move through the world. It also offers her the opportunity to do procedural work while developing long-term relationships with her patients.

Today, as a fellowship-trained gastroenterologist, Dr. Campbell believes that being trusted as a partner in furthering a patient’s well-being is one of the greatest gifts. She feels honored to bring years of consistent practice and study to these partnerships and be part of the journey toward improving quality of life. She is comfortable working within all areas of gastroenterology, and she has particular interest in the following conditions:

  • General GI care
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Dyspepsia
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Colon cancer prevention

Dr. Campbell graduated from the University of Virginia with an undergraduate degree in biology with highest distinction. She earned her medical degree from Harvard University in Boston, MA, after which she spent a year in research at Massachusetts General Hospital’s cardiac psychiatry research program. She completed her residency training in internal medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, followed by a gastroenterology fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

“I see myself as a partner in achieving my patients’ goals for their own well-being, which differs from patient to patient. Between my patients’ understanding of their own bodies and goals and my knowledge and experience as a gastroenterologist, we can work toward an improvement in overall health,” Dr. Campbell said.

Before joining Capital Digestive Care, Dr. Campbell was a gastroenterology fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She earned the resident mentor award during her residency and served as one of the chief residents at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center in Boston.

When she is not working, Dr. Campbell enjoys spending time with her wife Nora, who is a clinical psychologist. She unwinds by exercising, reading, and cooking.
